PPE for the NHS

How our Workshop is helping during the COVID-19 Pandemic

A Railway ticket reading "A family Friendly Garden Railway"
With a serious shortage of PPE in the NHS and our business closed due to COVID19 we've turned the machines that usually work in our model making workshop to producing PPE. However 3D printing is not a fast process and we need to increase the amount we can make in a week. We're raising money to purchase more machines and the plastic used to produce the Ear Protectors.
We will be donating these machines to schools or clubs once the crisis is over.

Please consider giving any amount to help us reach our goal

Supplying Ear Protectors to the NHS
The surgical face masks that NHS workers are having to wear all day are causing damage to their ears. Many nurses report sore and bleeding ears caused by the elastic straps on the masks. The Ear protectors push the elastic away from the ears and improve the seal of the mask. The Soar Valley Garden Railway has made and distributed 8700 ear protectors to frontline staff in Leicester, Nottingham and Derby Hospitals.
Translink Express Logistics - Delivering PPE to the NHS

A team of 3d Printers in Nottingham, Leicester and Derby

As well as using our machines ee're acting as the collection hub for a team of 11 volunteers who are using their machines to print for the NHS. At the railway we check for quality, clean and allocated the prints for delivery to Loughborough Partnership Trust Hospitals, Nottingham University Hospitals and Derby Hospitals
What do we usually use our printers for?

What do we usually use our printers for?
Our printers are based at the Soar Valley Garden Railway (Which is also our family home) where they are used to make parts for our trains and model villages. The railway teaches children (2yrs and up) to drive model trains.
In the past our printers have printed miniature street lights, railway signals, station signs, billboards, fences, furniture, spare parts, a working snow plow and even a diesel locomotive!

"Lovely little place and staff were really helpful and friendly.

My son (aged 2.5) loved it, especially the fact that he was allowed to let his dinosaur ride the train! My little girl (aged 1.5) also loved it and enjoyed looking at the lights and climbing in the tunnels!

Food was homemade and really tasty too"
